Dewight “Tommy” Thomas Cargile, age 78, of Fayetteville, TN, passed away on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at his residence. He was born October 5, 1947, in Fayette County, AL., son of the late Richard Oliver & Ruby Usery Cargile.
He was a kind and selfless man whose generosity and warmth touched everyone he met. He had a heart that never stopped giving and treated everyone like family—whether you were a lifelong friend or one of his daughter’s friends walking through the door for the first time. He loved helping others and found true joy in making people feel welcomed and cared for. You couldn’t go anywhere with him without running into someone he knew—he made friends everywhere he went, leaving a lasting impression on everyone lucky enough to cross his path. He was a man of many talents and passions. He loved bowling and once achieved a perfect 300 game, a rare feat that reflected his focus and determination. He could outplay anyone in a game of cards and always did so with a smile. A proud and dedicated worker, he attended Tennessee Tech, where he studied engineering, and later devoted 50 years of his life to Goodman Manufacturing. He was pivotal in many areas of Amana before its transition to Goodman and was a driving force in the union, standing up for fairness and respect in the workplace. His colleagues revered him not only as a co-worker but as a brilliant friend and mentor. He loved his family deeply, his late son, whom he would have done anything for; his beloved wife, who was the love of his life; and his two granddaughters, whom he raised and loved as his own daughters. And by his side every day was his loyal blue heeler, his constant companion and riding buddy, who never missed a morning drive with him. His kindness, integrity, and strength will live on in all the lives he touched.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife: Amy Josephine Cargile; son: Shawn Cargile, sisters: Jewel Cargile and Gayla (Billy Joe) Rutledge; and brother: Charles Cargile.
Mr. Cargile is survived by his daughters: Shawna Marie Cargile and Breand Nicole Cargile (Lake Lewis); sisters-in-law: Mary Jo Koonce, Betty Koonce, Ann Koone and Sondra Craven Cargile; and brother: Gerald (Diane) Cargile.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, October 13, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Gallant-Riverview Funeral Home with Rev. Eddie Graves officiating. Burial will follow in Lincoln Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Monday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. before the service.
