Matthew Scott Williamson, age 30, of New Market, AL, passed away on Saturday, September 6, 2025. He was born in Huntsville, AL on December 19, 1994. Matthew was a proud father, devoted husband, loving son, and a loyal friend to everyone who knew him. He was an avid hunter, an outdoorsman, and a devoted fan of Alabama football. Matt was also known for his stubborn streak, his sharp dry wit, and his unwavering conviction when he believed he was right - attributes he expertly wielded in his relentless efforts to serve others.
From the time he was in kindergarten, Matt talked about a career in the military. His high score on the ASVAB gave him the opportunity to work in intelligence, his top choice. At age 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force delayed entry program. His military journey began with basic training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, followed by technical training at Goodfellow AFB in San Angelo, TX.
He was then stationed at Creech AFB in Nevada, where his wife, Errin, joined him. It was there that his squadron gave him the nickname "Beast," a nod to his "Redneck Disney-princess-like" ability to attract woodland creatures at will. A picture of him with a New Market deer named Bo sealed the deal. Matt’s next adventure was a move to Hickam AFB in Hawaii, where he was Airman of the Quarter multiple times. His career concluded at Scott AFB in Illinois after 10 years of service. During his time in the Air Force, he traveled the world, visiting places like South Korea, the DMZ, Guam, Alaska, and Japan.
Upon completion of his service, Matt and Errin returned home to New Market, where he continued his public service in support of the FBI as a field training and support specialist and as a civilian with the U.S. Army as a foreign intelligence officer.
His service awards include:
Air and Space Commendation Medal
Meritorious Unit Award with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster
Air and Space Outstanding Unit Award with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster
Combat Readiness Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster
AF Good Conduct Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters
National Defense Service Medal
Global War on Terrorism Service Medal
Remote Combat Effects Campaign Medal with 2 Service Stars

Air and Space Longevity Service Award with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster
