Joe Carlton Pool, age 83, of Hazel Green, AL, passed away on Tuesday, October 28, 2025. He was born in Lincoln County Hospital on November 13, 1941, to the late Nathan and Daisy Gertrude Pool.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Daisy and Nathan Pool; brothers Malcolm Pool, Robert Pool, Bobby Poole, Homer Bunn, and Clydie Bunn; sister Louise Marlow; and son-in-law Dwight Ratley.

Joe is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Eleanor Pool; his children Glyn (Julie) Pool and Rita Ratley; his beloved granddaughters Ashlee Pool, Bethany Pool, Jessica Kimbrough, and Kristen (Chris) Fields; and great-grandchildren Chloe, Abby, and Zach Kimbrough, and Tanner Fields. He is also survived by his brothers JW (Patsy) Poole and Roy (Laurie) Poole, and Sister-in-law Mary Poole along with a host of extended family and dear friends.

Joe spent most of his life in Madison County, Alabama, and Lincoln County, Tennessee. He grew up working as a sharecropper and later held positions at several of Huntsville’s most historic factories, including Martin Stove (The Stove Factory) and Genesco (Lowe Mill). He also worked for Madison County Schools as a Visual Aid Technician.

A lifelong entrepreneur, Joe co-founded and co-owned B&P Pest Control in Hazel Green. After retiring from the pest control industry, he found great joy in starting his own mini-farm—a passion that reflected his love of hard work and the simple pleasures of country life.

Joe was a longtime member of Friendship Stateline Free Will Baptist Church, where he faithfully served as a deacon for 51 years. His dedication to his church and community reflected his strong faith and servant’s heart.

He deeply loved his family and always looked forward to family gatherings. He cherished camping trips with his extended family at Fall Creek Falls every May and September, and the annual Fourth of July BBQs that often stretched early into the next morning.

More than anything, Joe adored his grandchildren. He would have walked through fire for them, and his love and devotion to his family will forever be remembered.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 30, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at Friendship Stateline Freewill Baptist Church with Bro. Glyn Pool and Bro. Clayton Bunn officiating. Burial will follow in Stateline Cemetery with Bro. Rusty Lincoln officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Friendship Stateline Freewill Baptist Church.

Gallant-Riverview Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Joe Carlton Pool.
