James Vernon Cothren, age 72, of Hazel Green, AL, passed away on Tuesday, February 4, 2025. He was born on March 29, 1952, to the late Horace & Mildred Eakes Cothren. He worked at Scott’s Orchard and he attended New Day Bible Church.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife: Phyllis Ann Cothren; one granddaughter: Abigail Cothren; and four sisters: Juanita Cothren, Ruth Hicks, Lila Faye Caldwell and Jeanette Swinford.

Mr. Cothren is survived by one daughter: Tammy (Brent) Dabbs of Taft, TN; one son: Anthony (Rachel Michelle) Cothren of Hazel Green, AL; seven grandchildren: Brittney (Wade) Watson, Aaron (Angel) Watson, Amanda (Travis) Taylor, Levi Lanier, Emma Cothren, Alyssa Cothren and Tessa Cothren; seven great grandchildren: Bayleigh Riggs, Gracelyn Riggs, Bellamy Riggs, Dallas Riggs, Axel Watson, Gauge Dabbs and Ty Taylor; four sisters: Yvonne Hicks, Sarah Price, Linda Riddle and Nancy Bankston; and three brothers: Johnny Cothren, Frankie Cothren and David Cothren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 8, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Gallant-Riverview Funeral Home with Bro. Tyler Riddle and Bro. Spencer Hardiman officiating. Burial will follow in Gatlin Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
