Doris Lorine Clark Trimble of Fayetteville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2024, at the age of 98, surrounded by her loved ones. Born on August 18, 1926, in East Point, Georgia, Doris was the daughter of George Washington Clark and Nellie Henderson Clark. She recently celebrated her 98th birthday with her family, a testament to her long and fulfilling life.
Doris graduated at the top of her class from Russell High School in East Point, Georgia, on June 1944, and continued her studies at the University of Georgia Evening College in Atlanta. Throughout her early career, Doris held a variety of positions, including tax consultant, staff member at the Georgia Department of Corrections Pardons and Parole Board, and self-employed childcare provider. In 1964, Doris began working at Redstone Arsenal in Alabama, where she excelled in several roles, including Staff Writer for a Major General, Analyst, and Imagery Data Specialist. She retired from Missile Intelligence in December 1989.
Doris had many hobbies and passions. She loved traveling with her husband and working in the garden alongside her father. She was also a talented and creative quilter. As a charter member of the Lincoln County Piecemakers Quilt Guild, Doris produced many beautiful and intricate works of art. She enjoyed mentoring others in the craft of quilting, and even guided her husband Bill in completing his own tee-shirt quilt. Before her vision declined in recent years, she lovingly designed and created quilts for all her grandchildren, leaving a lasting legacy of her creativity and dedication.
A source of unwavering positivity, kindness, and encouragement, Doris touched the lives of many. She had a deep love for her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and always offered words of support and acts of love. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she was a devoted member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, where she and Bill celebrated numerous life milestones. Even as health challenges limited her ability to attend in recent years, Doris remained deeply connected to her faith and congregation.
In addition to her parents, Doris is preceded in death by her brother: William Leslie Clark; and her sister: Margery Helen Clark Plach.
Doris is survived by her beloved husband of 76 years, Warren Billy (Bill) Trimble, whom she married on October 11, 1947, at Peachtree Christian Church in Atlanta, Georgia, while Bill was stationed at Chamblee NAS, Atlanta, during his service in the Marine Corps. Other survivors include her son: Warren Jeffrey Trimble (Mary); her daughter: Lisa Trimble Marty; and her cherished grandchildren: Jennifer Lee Trimble Fisher (Blair), Warren Travis Trimble (Rachel), Nathan Phillip Marty (Natalie), and William Jacob Marty. She also leaves behind six great grandchildren: Zach Fisher (Morgan), Kyle Fisher, Luke Trimble, Reagan Trimble, Louise Marty, and Lambeth Marty. Doris is also survived by her sister: Mary Nell Clark Sudduth; and her brother: Lloyd George Clark.
Doris’ life was one of love, creativity, and unwavering kindness, and her memory will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
