Remembering the Life of
Pete M. Hall
June 3, 1937 - May 4, 2023
Pete M. Hall was born to John and Pearlie Ann Hall in Belvidere, TN, on June 3, 1937. As a young man, Pete served in the Navy, traveling to many parts of the world, an interest he would maintain for life. While in the Navy, Pete met the love of his life, Shirley Ann Goodman. They married, and Pete added the many Goodmans to his heart. Together Pete and Shirley had 3 children and built a beautiful family and farm. After serving his country, Pete took a job at Cumberland Motor Parts, honing his skills as a machinist, mechanic, and tinkerer. Always a hard worker, Pete used these skills to build a new career at Arnold Engineering Development Center while maintaining his full-time farming. He accomplished much in both careers and retired from Arnold well-liked and well-respected while continuing to run his farm for the rest of his life. In addition to an impressive work ethic, Pete knew how to pursue hobbies and passions to enrich his life and enrich the lives of others. He spent many years traveling the continent to explore new trails with his friends and his favorite horse, BJ. At home and on his trips, Pete loved to cook a hot and hearty meal for his many friends or extended family gathered around his hearth or at his camp. Later in life he also developed a passion for making wine, perfecting his recipes and sharing much of the wine with his friends. This was just a fraction of the generosity Pete showed throughout his life. He was always happy to fill a bag with garden vegetables or frozen meat and swap a story. Pete was called home May 4, 2023. He died peacefully on the farm, leaving behind his wife Shirley Goodman Hall, his daughters Patricia Hall Sutton and Gay Hall Luthi (Dwight), and his son Mark Hall. He leaves behind five grandchildren: Caleb Sutton (Alexandra), Joshua Alexander (Erica), Kelsey Sutton, Sage Hall and Logan Dudley. He was blessed with two great-grandchildren as well: Mara Alexander and Peter Sutton. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Hoyte, John, James, and Donald Hall. Pete will be deeply missed by his family, which was the greatest joy and passion of his life. Visitation will be on Sunday, May 7, 2023, from 12-3 pm at Watson Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 3:00 pm in the Roy B. Watson Chapel of Watson Funeral Home. Interment will be at Franklin Memorial Gardens.
